Look, I’m not gonna sugar coat it.
Things have been real hard for a while now.
Between working across varying degrees of client projects, and not getting to be creative in any form, my desire to be the glue and help everyone has been dwindling.
In fact, I stopped actively looking for clients on purpose as I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be that person anymore and I needed to figure out what I wanted to be before I could move forward.
So where is all this change coming from?
When I first setup my business, I saw all the possibilities of what working for myself could mean. Flexibility, networking, creativity, upskilling, choosing what I wanted to do… there’s a lot of positives to draw on.
I had a lot of different skills to offer so I knew I could make it work. But I was very nervous about starting, and instead of biting the bullet to focus solely on copywriting, I took the safe option and decided to step into the VA world and offer up a myriad of services.
Don’t get me wrong – I’ve bloody LOVED meeting new people and helping my clients when they needed it. I’ve created so many amazing things for my clients and helped them work through many ideas and problems and come out the other end with epic solutions.
The gusto I had when I first started out has slowly dwindled, but its not that I haven’t enjoyed the projects I’ve worked on.
Nothing to do with the people or the type of work I’ve done. I just got too busy, too burnt out and found that I wasn’t fuelling my creative side at all.
And to be honest, I’ve always wanted to be a writer. Deep down I couldn’t escape the feeling that I needed to be writing as much as I can.
For a long time now, there’s been a pull towards writing more, so I took a step back and thought about how I want the next chapter of my business to look.
I’ll still be helping small business, I’ll just be focused on writing words…
Words that help explain what you do.
Words that can make your website work harder for you.
Words that help people trust you and see you as the leader in your space.
And the kind of words that keeps your business visible online through written content, emails and blogs (yesss, blogs are still a thing!)
I know for some people it might not seem like a big deal because copywriting is a service that I’ve already been offering and selling. But to pull back on everything else – all the safe options – and to focus solely on writing, is a big step for me.
There’s also another underlying inspiration for finally making my decision, but that’s another story for another time.
I’m really excited (but also quietly 💩 myself) to move into this new phase – who knew that finally deciding to follow your dreams could be so nerve-wracking?!
